Loch Ardinning is a natural loch north of Milngavie. It has a substantial area of open water where ducks may be seen at most times of the year but especially in winter.
A small dam was built across the outflow in 1796 to raise the water level in order to supply power to the mills in Strathblane. The loch is around 120m above sea level, and freezes regularly in winter, and so was a popular curling loch.
The loch and surrounding wood and moorland now belong to the Scottish Wildlife Trust who manage it with the aim of maintaining and increasing the diversity of habitats for the benefit of the wildlife.
