The picture shows the view of the castle from the west, along the John Muir Way towards Bo'ness. The Forth Bridges are in the background further upstream.
You can see why it earned the title of "The Ship That Never Sailed". The central tower of the castle is often called the "main mast", while the north and south towers are named the "stem" and the "stern".
The castle was used in the TV series Outlander, where it served as Fort William. The courtyard was the location of the infamous flogging scene.
