North of Tyndrum, the West Highland Way follows the Old Military Road, built by Major William Caulfield in the early 1750s as a means to transport troops between Fort William and Stirling.

Here, it passes below Ben Odhar in the foreground, and the distinctive cone of Ben Dorain in the distance.

The West Highland Railway Line follows a similar route between Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy, as does the modern A82 road.
