This rocky outcrop is a few hundred metres out of Balmaha on the route north along the West Highland Way towards Rowardennan. It commands superb views across the southern end of Loch Lomond. Although it bears the name Craigie Fort, there is no evidence that there was ever a fort at this location, and it is more likely that it was used as a lookout.
The fort sits at the top of a set of steps that climb up the hillside through the oakwoods and out of Balmaha. As well as being part of the West Highland Way, the fort is also on the route of the much shorter Balmaha Millenium Forest Path.
